“Would you let someone else do to yourself what you’re doing?”
“Would you let them do to themselves what you’re doing?”
“If someone you love was doing something (? Fill in the blank?), would you let him/her do it?”
“The answer to those questions, that’s the answer to do yourself,” for yourself, yes, YOU….are you paying attention? Yeah, go back and re-read that. Paying attention now? Proceed.
~ Questions by Dr. Mehmet Oz
It’s the first week of 2011. I’m gearing up for my 36th year of living. The past decade of my journey I’ve been within the bend of a shift of consciousness. It’s exciting when you find what you love, what fits you and you’re able to do it. You fulfill a purpose, you give back by being in your authentic life and you in turn serve others. It’s a win-win for everyone. I’m a firm believer that each of us has our own unique authentic calling in life, that there are things we do that are so adored by us that they feel effortless and give us nothing but positive energy. Are you doing that which brings you joy?
You know when someone is living their authentic life; you see that it resonates through them to the world. There’s an energy about them that just flows. They shine, they’re different and it’s all good. Think about the people you know who are the best at what they do. There’s the most caring vet in training who always had a lifelong love of animals and caring for them, the Realtor who genuinely cares about meeting all of their clients desires and dreams and builds a lifelong relationship making a new friend, the volunteer at the school who always brings an energy of fun to the crazy front office or the massage therapist who’s touch is so magical that it seems as if their hands are gifts of the universe. There’s the grandmother who’s raising a family of grandchildren with the same amount of love, patience and endurance that she had with their parent. Educators who leave an endearing mark of wonder and curiosity to become educated, taking on new horizons of learning are another example.
So then, if the above is the goal, why do so many of us stay stuck and less than that for so long? Why aren’t more of us living like this? We sell ourselves short. We don’t believe we’re worthy of that lifestyle. We can even sometimes just get caught up in surviving and take on whatever we need to do just that. Comfort zones, fear of the unknown, fear of failure, bondage of living an authentic life can be found in many places.
I think 2011 should be about you. I think we should all ask ourselves those hard Dr. Oz questions with the behaviors of our lives. We need to be our own best friends, to treasure ourselves. In health, spirit and wealth we can all learn to love ourselves in 2011. We can continue the shift in awareness that is our lives. Today. Now.
Ever notice when you just do this life brings on its own universal serendipity effect. You get to that point, “this is it, what life is all about.” We then meet people who get us, who accept us, who treasure us and appreciate us as we appreciate ourselves. This is how it’s supposed to be. You. Them. Us. Don’t mess it up. Find your joy and live your life.
